Program 4

Digitalisation of products and services

Leaders:
Prof. Sisi Zlatanova
Dr. Maria Rashidi

OBJECTIVES

  • This Stream will profound knowledge of harnessing digital transformation strategies and comprehensive plans that organisations adopt to make the most of digital technologies and transform how they do business for minimal environmental impact.

  • Program 4 concentrates on digitising the outputs of Programs 1 to 3 and leveraging digital technologies to equip companies for transformation.

DESCRIPTION

  • Currently, the complex and fragmented nature of the sector often results in less-than-ideal outcomes, as evidenced by several surveys. To fix this, a digital transformation plan needs to employ a holistic approach beyond the adoption of single digital tools.

  • This knowledge is a key source of efficiency and sustainability.

  • Looking at a broader scale, the digitisation mindset enables futuristic business models for the construction sector. It focuses on:

    • Embracing digital tools

    • Optimising processes, materials, and products

    • Fostering an innovative digital mindset using new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, and the IoT

  • Recognising that digital transformation is not a one-time project but an ongoing journey, the program concentrates on the workers, the tools and processes they are used to, and how they will need to adapt.

ADVANTAGES

  • This program will lead to digital transformation roadmaps, together with the right tools to maintain execution momentum across the sector.

  • Digitalisation of processes and products in building construction enables organisations to gain a significant competitive edge in the market. They can stay ahead of the curve by adapting to changes and harnessing the power of data for informed decision-making.

  • The successful execution of the training program will lead to the digitalisation of processes and products. This will enable the development of capabilities to utilise Industry 4.0 platform techniques for achieving net-zero construction ecosystems.

3 Research Streams

Program 4 is structured into three streams, focusing on key aspects of digitalisation and its role in revolutionising the building and construction industry.

Smart product-service systems in building construction supply chain

The aim is to develop knowledge of using SPSS platform-based solution in design process and facilitate adoption and eliminate barriers to these systems.

Outcome: Facilitating the adoption of smart product and service systems (SPSS), based on the supply chain needs.
