Residential Buildings with Solar Panels

Program 2

Resilience of building systems and design

Leaders:
A/Prof. Pejman Sharafi
Prof. Bo Xia

OBJECTIVES

  • Program 2 will provide profound knowledge and techniques of designing buildings as a whole ecosystem, while implementing resilience components.

  • Program 2 will address the gaps in current building planning, design, and development for resilience.

  • This Stream will focus on those aspects related to affecting the net zero building construction platforms and embodied energy and emissions.

DESCRIPTION

  • These resilience elements covered in this Stream are protection by adaptable/future-proofed designs, considering the factors for multi-hazard assessments (climate change, Earthquake, fire), BIM based LCA, and sustainable materials utilisation.

  • The resilient design principles are diverse spanning from developing various systems and passive solutions to designing buildings that will last longer and using reclaimed resources.

ADVANTAGES

  • Resilience is a critical pillar to support the net zero carbon target.

  • The successful implementation of Program 2 will develop knowledge and enhance skills for more circular and eco-adaptive building construction solution by integrating resilient solutions into decision making processes

3 Research Streams

Program 2 is organized into three streams to comprehensively cover all aspects of resilience in building systems and design.
